Open hearts, open minds, open doors...it isn't just a saying with us. It's our vision.

Global Convo Application Essay

I am Tyler Ward from the Kansas-West Conference of the United Methodist Church. I seek to represent the South-Central Jurisdiction at the Global Young People’s Convocation & Legislative Session in July of 2010.

I enjoy leadership roles and thrive in these type of opportunities. I am on my school’s Student Council, a member of the Kansas-West Conference Council on Youth Ministry, a South-Central Jurisdiction Youth Team Representative, and a leader in my church youth group and the technology team. One thing that I feel very passionate about is making decisions for the future of the United Methodist Church and for the ministries of the local church. I am also in the process of discernment, as I am considering my calling into full-time ministry as a United Methodist pastor.

I have benefited from learning how the United Methodist Church functions and I have personally seen the impact that United Methodist Church sponsored events can make upon people’s lives. Some of these events include Chrysalis, UMC camps, CCYM-sponsored events, and events held at my church for the community. I have enjoyed the experience of being on the team reconstructing my church’s youth ministry as we are striving to reach out to more youth in the community.

I also love meeting new people. I have met several good friends at other United Methodist events and I am really looking forward to meeting United Methodists from different cultures from around the world.

I am confident that I grow from new experiences. I can think of no better way to spend July 21- 26, 2010, than to celebrate and worship with young people from around the world as we join to strengthen our ministries and praise God as One Body.

To represent the South-Central Jurisdiction at the Global Young People’s Convocation & Legislative Session, is a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet other youth from around the world. I look forward to seeing how the United Methodist Church works globally to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
